before boogie funk had a resurgence in 2012, ruckazoid was dropping rare funk albums in 2004. his demos were floating around la, but it wasn’t until 2009 that breakbot remixed ruckazoid’s original “life’s fantasy”, which was later released in 2011 as an original track titled “fantasy” on ed banger records. fantasy became a breakout hit scoring a #1 single on itunes. in 2013 when daft punk released “get lucky” featuring pharrell, funk was officially back in the mainstream. those in the know knew breakbot & ruckazoid helped rekindle the funk flame worldwide. after all, the label ed banger is headed by busy p, and busy p managed daft punk. suprinsingly, ruckazoid did not tour with breakbot, opting to stay in the studio to record more albums. amazing lover being one of these albums, with love game becoming the lead track.

a few years ago, melodies family members floating points and dj red greg got their hands on a couple of original 70s obscurities. while these standout records shone brightly in their own right, the two djs saw the potential to create their own edits behind the scenes, finely attuning the original versions to modern-day dancefloor standards. of these new recordings, they cut only five copies for themselves and a few dj friends of theirs. today, melodies international is very proud to bring you mel006 and mel007. fully licensed, lovingly mastered to the highest possible standards and carefully edited to dial up that dancefloor enjoyment, these two æyouÆre a melodyÆ classics werenÆt originally meant to get official releases. but due to popular request, they are now available to play and share in very special moments at parties around the world. mel6 arrives as a 7-inch, with the original version and the edit on the flip. first released in 1979 as a three-minute up-tempo library recording, ôdisco baby-, one of 10 tracks off a record available to license for film, radio, television and other media, held some hidden magic that would only get uncovered almost four decades later. informed by years of combined dancefloor experience, floating points and red greg have slightly tweaked the original material, realising that played in the right context, it can become a true disco anthem.

it s not often we get an insight into the electronic music of south america, so all hail the arrival of calypso from mexico s inigo vontier and argentina s thomass jackson. the tracks featured certainly strike a unique chord, with mendrix weaving a seductive, noirish tale full of brooding guitar and slow ticking drums, while -colossio- takes on a darkwave tone on the wonderfully creepy -esta en mi-. the label bosses tackle the b side, with jackson s -fantomas- sporting a sharper dancefloor sensibility without ever resorting to obvious tropes. vontier rounds the ep out with the weirdo boogie throwdown of -namaste-, sure to pique the interest of anyone locked into the sound coming out of the speakers.
